Birch Shapes is an original oil painting by Andrea Bates. The warm autumnal tones of the piece remind Andrea of the birches that line the forest trails of Ottawa, where she grew up in Canada. The use of line creates a real movement in the work and brings the landscape to life.
Andrea Bates (née Bartók) was born in Budapest, Hungary. She was educated in Paris and Montreal, and later studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Andrea now lives in North Oxfordshire, where she has her own studio and gallery. Andrea has been painting since 1994, creating many original works and prints. Andrea's preferred media are oils and pastels, with subjects including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, flowers, gardens, street scenes, still life, and occasional abstracts.
